Neuro-Inclusive Cohousing Project

Bucks NIC Concepts 1

Welcome to an Exciting New Chapter for Neuro-Inclusive Living!

Front Porch Cohousing is thrilled to share significant progress on our ongoing Neuro-Inclusive Cohousing Project in Perkasie, PA. This project is at the heart of our mission: to build vibrant, supportive communities where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can thrive independently and inclusively. With each milestone, we get closer to realizing a community that is uniquely designed to support both autonomy and a sense of belonging.

Our Vision

The Neuro-Inclusive Cohousing Project in Perkasie aims to create a pioneering, supportive neighborhood where neurodivergent individuals and their allies can live, work, and grow together. We envision a place where adults with IDD are not only residents but also contributors and co-creators of a dynamic community. Through shared spaces, inclusive activities, and a sense of collective ownership, we aim to break down barriers and build a community that represents belonging and opportunity for everyone.

Recent Milestones

  1. Securing Property and Predevelopment Efforts
We have successfully secured the property in Perkasie, a significant step that brings our dream closer to reality. We are currently raising $200,000 for critical predevelopment expenses, including architectural sketches, zoning variance proposals, pre-engineering studies, and township application fees. These funds are key to ensuring the project is built to meet the needs of all residents, with a focus on accessibility and community integration.

  2. Architectural Design and Community Planning
The architectural sketches are underway, focusing on a design that fosters independence while promoting shared living. The layout includes private living spaces alongside common areas for social interaction, activities, and events. This thoughtful design is central to our goal of creating an intentional, neuro-inclusive environment where each resident has a voice.

  3. Community Sponsorship Campaign
Our Community Sponsorship Campaign has been launched to engage local supporters and stakeholders. We are reaching out to businesses, community groups, and individuals to come together as champions for neuro-inclusive living. With your support, we can fund the infrastructure and build an enduring sense of community. Interested sponsors are invited to contribute to this vision and can be memorialized through custom-engraved pavers that will mark pathways in our communal gardens.

  4. Engaging Local Partners and Stakeholders
We have begun conversations with local businesses, sports franchises, and public entities about partnerships to enrich our cohousing model. These collaborations are vital in providing residents employment opportunities, skill-building workshops, and inclusive recreational activities. We aim to ensure residents feel truly integrated into the larger Perkasie community.

  5. 'Champions of Hope' Peer-to-Peer Campaign
Our Champions of Hope Peer-to-Peer fundraising campaign runs from October 1st through Giving Tuesday, December 3rd. The funds raised will directly contribute to predevelopment efforts. Participants are encouraged to get involved, create personal fundraising pages, and share their connections to the cause. Incentives, such as custom-engraved pavers for top fundraisers, have been introduced to recognize these champions' efforts in making this dream a reality.

If this were easy, it would already be done. Fifty years from now, it won't matter what our bank accounts looked like, the houses we lived in, or the cars we drove... but the world may be different because we were important in the life of an adult with an IDD.

Together, we can make a lasting impact by creating neuro-inclusive living spaces that are supportive, empowering, and full of possibility.

Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.
